Why Most Project Management Tools Overwhelm Creatives (And What to Do About It)

The problem isn’t you — it’s the tool. Here’s how to choose a system that actually supports your workflow.

I’ve tried Asana, Trello, ClickUp, and a dozen others. Every time, I ended up spending more time managing the tool than managing my work. The issue is that these tools are built for teams and processes, not for individual creatives who thrive on flexibility and visual inspiration.

What I’ve learned is that the best system for a creative solopreneur is one you can customize to your brain. Notion works because it’s a blank canvas. But a blank canvas can also be paralyzing. That’s why templates are so powerful — they give you a starting point that’s already beautiful and functional.

My advice: start with one simple dashboard. A page with a to-do list, a calendar, and a notes section. Use it for a week, then tweak. Don’t try to build the perfect system on day one. Let it evolve with you.
